Spanish or Italian Morion helmet

16th Century Spanish or Italian combed Morion. Entire body, brim and comb are profusely etched with floral designs and show a rope pattern along the brim edges. The large etched panel on one side includes a coat-of-arms, a drummer and a second male figure playing a flute. The tall comb has a male figure and two large mythical birds among the foliage. The reverse side of the comb is similar and the large center scene has a male and a female figure exhibiting the costume of the period. The figures are presented against a stippled type background. A strange face and wings decorate the base of this panel. The entire base is bordered with a row of rosette-headed rivets. The brim is stepped and both levels are engraved with continuous floral vines. The interior is aged. A rare helmet. II
